The Rose

red-rose-2

The soul of the rose

is in it’s sweet perfume

which gives witness to the touch

of divine

and it’s unique identity

lies in the thorns

vital for it’s protection,

a shield of defense

which fences off lust and evil eyes

trying to pluck it

and protects

the exotic beauty

of it’s flushed, satin petals,

The colors so rich

as if painted with the blood

of love itself

And…even if plucked

the flora is destined

with an enviable fate-

a gift of a lover

a bouquet of a bride

the pride of a shrine

a memory between diary pages

garland of royalty

or the decoration of a forgotten grave.

So many sides to this delicate flower isn’t there Suri? … very wonderful poetry dearest friend… sending you love x RL

    • Love roses my sweet Robyn. It’s my fav flower….i feel the queen of the botanical world. A rose has so many expressions of life and teaches us quite a few lessons. I agree with you….much love back to you!

  3. I could almost feel the fragrance through your words, my dear friend. And definitely see the beauty of many shades.
Coulnd’t resist adding a couple of lines from one of my all-time favourite books: “You’re beautiful, but you’re empty…One couldn’t die for you. Of course, an ordinary passerby would think my rose looked just like you. But my rose, all on her own, is more important than all of you together, since she’s the one I’ve watered. Since she’s the one I put under glass, since she’s the one I sheltered behind the screen. Since she’s the one for whom I killed the caterpillars (except the two or three butterflies). Since she’s the one I listened to when she complained, or when she boasted, or even sometimes when she said nothing at all. Since she’s my rose.” Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

    • Ohhh Esenga…..my dear, this is so so so beautiful, touching and deep. Indeed there may be many roses….but mine is special for me….coz it belongs to me and i have taken care of it.
